Philosophy of language final paper topics

Choose ONE of the following Tasks and ONE of the suggested topics:

Task 1:

Choose a philosopher/linguist from the given list (tomorrow's lecture). Write a short essay on his contribution to the study of language.

Offer a two-page excerpt from his work on language. Translate it into Bulgarian.

Task 2:

Choose a text from the suggested list. Translate it into Bulgarian. (10 pages)

Task 3:

Write a theoretical Essay (4-8 pages) on one of the following topics:

1. The Nature of language.
2. The nature of meaning and the nature of reference.
3. Linguistic phenomena:

3.1 compositionality, opacity,

3.2 tense, plurality, quantifiers,

3.3 logical constants, logical form and linguistic form.

4. Varieties of speech acts.
5. Language and Mind in the Cyberspace.
6. English Philosophy of language.
7. American philosophy and language.
8. Language and politics, language policy.
9. The Language of Science.
10. Philosophy, Language and Translation.

Task 4:

Choose a philosopher/linguist from the given list . Write a short essay on his contribution to the study of language.

Compare the English and the Bulgarian translations of the pages attached. Find out if there are any differences in their understanding.

Уморих се да тичам повече.
А може би - вече не искам.
Пада тъжно по много януарският сняг -
а може би времето си е време, не му е до лични.

Няма те днес - но оставил си огън
да напомня, че някъде близо си...
Не умея да стъквам толкова бързо
а може би - не съм се опитвала...

Колко още остава, колко вече е минало
няма кой да ми каже, а може би и не трябва да зная.
От самото начало, все чакаме края -
а може би и не чакаме - търсим друго начало.

Колко много илюзии ражда животът
а може би - той самият такъв е:
не от време и не от частици материя,
а от мисли и приказки изграден е светът ни.

Бързаш все напред някъде, търсиш пътека,
а може би се опитваш да направиш пъртина;
Чакай малко, уморих се да тичам,
а може би - не е нужно да идвам.

Не съм слаба и немощна
мога огън сама да си стъкна
мога също да правя пъртина
може би мога също без тебе
а може би - не това искам.

Знам, че скоро ще свърши и зимата
а може би - не е нужно даже да свършва.
Само слънчев лъч, а може би - сняг и кокичета
и кажи, че искаш да тичаме.
